Quando incontra per la prima volta Henry Miller, lo percepisce come un uomo di New York rozzo ma molto virile. Lui ha gran talento nella letteratura e a quell'epoca stava lavorando al suo primo libro. Henry non teme di affrontare la vita a viso aperto, ma anzi si fa trascinare ed intossicare da essa. Successivamente June Miller arriva a Parigi e Anais rimane irresistibilmente attratta da lei. Lei rimane subito meravigliata dalla forza e dalla classe della donna, e presto rimane totalmente infatuata di June, che è apertamente bisessuale, che di per se stessa è una novità che costituisce una pericolosa tentazione per Anaïs Nin.".
